An acoustic wave sensor can be described as a highly advanced instrument for measuring changes in physical characteristics of a medium based on the ability of acoustic waves – surface acoustic waves (SAW) and bulk acoustic waves (BAW), in particular – to respond to these interferences. These sensors produce acoustic waves which in event with medium invoke certain quantifiable changes of velocity, amplitude, or frequency depending on changes in physical, chemical or biological characteristics of the media.
