Another name for syngas is synthesis gas and it is a fuel gas with well-known composition formed of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and at times carbon dioxide. It is produced by gasification of a carbon containing fuel to a gaseous product of some heating value. Syngas is intermediate compound widely used further for the production of chemical derivatives such as methanol, ammonia and synthetic natural gas and for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to obtain liquid hydrocarbon. It can be formulated on the basis of specific downstream processes, thus strengthening its importance as a component in reactions of the chemical and energy sectors.
