Space battery is a battery specially developed to work under conditions that are characteristic of space environment. These batteries are endowed for use in satellites, space probes, rovers, and any other paraphernalia required in space exploration; they offer steady energy for long-term operations. Space batteries must withstand very low or high temperatures, radiation, vacuum, and absence of maintenance. These normally require high energy density, long service life and good safety characteristics. There are many types, like lithium-ion, nickel-hydroden, and some of the latest ones as the solid-state batteries, all selected due to their characteristics that nowadays are able to meet the requirements of space programs.
