Tembotrione is a selective herbicide that main application is in corn fields to combat broadleaf weeds together with grasses. It blocks the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase which is used in chlorophyll biosynthesis in plants. Several plants that transmitted this hormone are inhibited and thus chlorosis and death of the targeted weeds occur while corn plants are not sensitive to the herbicide. Tembotrione is used because of the effectiveness against incessant weeds such as velvetleafs and its relatively low impact on the environment as compared to the older generation of herbicides.
